My favourite DIY hair deep treatment

I mentioned on my last video that I use coconut oil as a hair mask. However, there's a specific DIY recipe I've been using for the past year that I wanted to share with you! It's pretty simple, VERY effective and smells delicious. I worked out this one when I decided I want my hair to get longer a bit faster, so after some trial and error, I found the best thing for my fine and dry hair.

You will need:

2 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of castor oil
5 drops of peppermint oil
5 drops of rosemary oil

You mix everything together and massage it on your scalp in small sections so it gets evenly distributed. It's better if the mixture is hot. Wrap your hair in a very warm towel and leave it for at least 2 hours, then shampoo as usual. I use it once in 10 days but you can use it as often as you like.

This is primarily a scalp mask, but you can use it to the full length of your hair. I just prefer applying only coconut oil to the rest of the hair and I will mention a few things about the oils below so you can understand why.

Peppermint oil is great for stimulation and has a slightly tingly effect and a fresh scent. It helps your hair grow faster and stronger. It also helps with excess oil production and relaxes blood vessels, so it's beneficial for headaches. It makes your hair shine. Please make sure to dilute it with either castor, coconut, avocado or vitamin E oil, you must not use it in direct contact to the skin.

Rosemary oil stimulates blood circulation so encourages hair growth, helps with dandruff and irritations on the scalp. It nourishes your hair and adds shine. Again, use diluted with some carrier oil.

Castor oil is a thick, almost honey-like oil. I started using this one for my eyelashes and then progressed onto my hair. It conditions and increases growth. It's one of the best things I've used for preventing split ends however, because it's so thick it's a pain to take off my hair, so I use it very sparingly. A great carrier oil, in my opinion it's best to use this one in combination with coconut oil.

Coconut oil is one of the best things you can invest on your hair. It solidifies below 20 degrees Celcius, so you have to warm it up so to liquify for better application. It's one of the best moisturising and softening treatments for your hair. It smells incredible and makes your hair very very shiny. I would definately recommend to look for unrefined and cold pressed coconut oil rather than refined, because it has more additives and lacks those factors that would work for better results.

My hair is stronger than before and gets long faster. For reference, I now have waist length hair and I trim it every 6 weeks. It certainly wasn't like that last year)

I purchased the carrier oils on iherb here and here and the essential oils in a small shop on Skoufou str. in Athens, but they have an online shop that ships everywhere in Greece that you can find here.

I haven't even used half of all the containers, so they go a looong way. Try it, it's magical!

  2. Let's admit it, we all love to style our hair. And while we enjoy the varying looks a new hairstyle gives us, we are also punishing our hair and damaging it in the process, when exposure to pollution and the sun is causing enough damage already. What our crowning glories deserve is a little pampering every now and again. If it's this recipe that does it for you; that's good news! Continue taking care of your hair. It's not coined the crowning glory for nothing.
